Grassroots Leadership
In 2008, CORO initiated the ‘Grassroots Leadership Development Program’ (GLDP), creating a dynamic platform to drive grassroots initiatives via region-wise campaigns.
Empowering Leaders Of Tomorrow: Goals of the GLDP
The primary objective of the GLDP is to empower and enhance the capabilities of potential leaders within marginalised communities. The program equips participants with skills to comprehend their individual identities, the societal contexts they operate within, and to collectively organise themselves. Moreover, participants learn about their entitlements and the strategies for asserting those.
Integration of NGOs/CBOs: Support System for Sustainable Impact
CORO acknowledges the significance of smaller Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) as a vital support network within the GLDP. These entities play a crucial role in sustaining the motivation of grassroots leaders. This philosophy is underscored by the selection criteria, where potential leaders must be affiliated with local NGOs or CBOs. CORO maintains relationships with such organisations in Maharashtra, which facilitates this integration.
Collaborative Mentorship: Amplifying Impact
In line with this collaborative approach, multiple ‘fellows’ are often selected from a single organisation, fostering a sense of unity and mutual support. Furthermore, mentors for these fellows within the GLDP are also sourced from the same organisation. This approach strengthens the bond between leaders and mentors, enhancing the effectiveness of the program.
