Single Women Programme
Across the districts of Beed, Latur, Osmanabad and Nanded we champion the transformation of single women into dynamic leaders of social change within their communities.
Who Does It Benefit?
Single women, whether widowed, abandoned, separated, or never married, confront a mosaic of societal stigmas. The barriers are manifold – education and employment elude them, independence is a distant dream, and the knowledge of available government support schemes is inaccessible. The result is a life ensnared in powerlessness, with restricted mobility that exposes them to vulnerability and exploitation. Our purpose is to liberate these women from their plight, enabling them to rewrite their narratives as agents of change.
CORO’s purpose is to liberate these women, enabling them to rewrite their narratives as agents of change.
The Single Women's Program Approach
Through the Single Women Organisation (Ekal Mahila Sangathan), CORO orchestrates a multifaceted strategy. This strategy instigates the formation of Mahila Mandals and Self Help Groups, fostering environments of empowerment. These groups provide training sessions that encompass rights, property ownership, documentation, and government support. Empowered from within, our single women leaders champion the cause of their fellow community members, igniting a paradigm shift in mindsets.
The Single Women’s Program Model
Unlocking Government Support
A plethora of government schemes exist to uplift single women, yet most remain unutilized due to lack of awareness and system support. Our intervention bridges this gap, linking single women to these programs by aiding them in securing identity documents, establishing bank accounts, and applying for support.
Reclaiming Property Rights
The patriarchal property system often denies single women rightful ownership of their homes. Our mission is to help them regain their property rights, bestowing them with the security they deserve.
Enabling Education and Employment
Our support extends to re-enrolling single women in education and aiding them in seeking employment opportunities. Mahila Mandals and Self Help Groups run diverse skill-training programs, while collective funding schemes empower entrepreneurial pursuits.
Data-Driven Insights
Baseline surveys, administered and analysed by our own single women leaders, illuminate the status of single women across villages. Our door-to-door outreach raises awareness, ensuring the Single Women Organisation’s impact reverberates widely.
