Organisational Development (OD)

OD nurtures relationships with communities, fostering transformative change and a diverse, equal, and inclusive society.

About The Program

Grassroots embodies the societal foundation, representing marginalised groups based on class, caste, gender, race, and more (intersectionality). Individuals in these groups often experience ‘being under power,’ subject to socio-political dynamics of change.
Organisations genuinely centred on grassroots concerns—focusing on people, context, content, and leadership—are grassroots organisations. This category typically includes small NGOs and CBOs (Community-Based Organizations).

Who Does It Benefit?

Contrary to the perception of OD being mainly managerial and financial, for CORO, it delves into introspection and critical evaluation of vision, programs, teams, impact, and accountability. OD nurtures relationships with communities, fostering transformative change and a diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) perspective.

The OD Approach: Empowering through Capacity Building

Nurturing Critical Networks

Strengthening grassroots networks becomes pivotal as vibrant local organisations spearhead the grassroots movement. These organisations, often grounded in local context, are eager to address pressing issues but lack guidance.

Harnessing Grassroots Capacities

Local leadership and contextual insights drive grassroots organisations, generating practical solutions rooted in local realities, leading to regenerative impact.

The OD Model

E

Unique Nature of Grassroots Capacity Building

Grassroots capacity building differs from general OD due to the form, motivation, binding factors, and vulnerabilities of grassroots organisations.
E

Shaping Organisational Structures

Creating meaningful and operational structures is vital as these organisations often form around passionate individuals.
E

Navigating Short-Term Needs to Wider Vision

Shifting from immediate concerns to a broader vision requires careful guidance, aligning programs with evolving visions.

Relationships as Core

Relationships, not just vision, drive these organisations, demanding facilitation of collective processes.

Adapting to Constant Change

The absence of long-term vision leads to changing theories of change and programs.
E

Enhancing Organisational Skills

Skills needed for organisational growth must be continuously developed due to resource limitations.
E

Promoting Inclusivity and Sustainability

Concepts like gender, diversity, and sustainability need greater incorporation.
E

Collective Empowerment

Transitioning from a one-person show to participatory processes requires support.
E

Overcoming Resource Challenges

Resource scarcity drives organisations toward survival projects, necessitating sustainable strategies.
E

Journey Toward Greater Impact

Narrow scale and vision hold potential for remarkable impact with proper support and visioning.
E

Elevating Community Engagement

Mobilisation and community participation skills play a crucial role.
